The IPC Journal welcomes original research, case studies and policy analysis from practitioners and academics advancing the discipline of project controls.

Scope

What we publish.

We accept four article types: original research, applied case studies, systematic reviews and policy briefings. Across all four, the work must materially advance the theory or practice of project controls.
  • Cost engineering, estimating and forecasting
  • Planning, scheduling and forensic delay analysis
  • Risk management and quantitative risk analysis
  • Earned value management and integrated performance reporting
  • Governance, assurance and portfolio management
  • Data, analytics and AI applied to project controls
Manuscript requirements

Formatting & structure.

Length

6,000 – 10,000 words (excluding references and appendices)

Abstract

200 – 250 words, structured: context · method · findings · implications.

Keywords

4 – 6 keywords from the IPC controlled vocabulary.

Referencing

IPC House Style (Harvard variant) — see downloadable guide .

File format

Anonymised .docx for review; LaTeX accepted (IPC template).

Figures & data

300 dpi minimum; underlying datasets deposited on submission

Editorial process

From submission to publication.

Submit manuscript

Upload your anonymised manuscript, cover letter and conflicts-of-interest declaration via the IPC Editorial Portal.

Editorial triage

reviews scope and quality within 10 working days. Out-of-scope papers are returned with feedback.

Double-blind peer review

Two or three independent reviewers, including at least one IPC Fellow, assess the manuscript over 6 – 8 weeks.

Decision

Accept · Minor revisions · Major revisions · Reject. All decisions are issued with full reviewer commentary.

Production & publication

Accepted papers are copy-edited, typeset and published in the next quarterly issue of the IPC Journal.

£2,000 prize

Every published paper is eligible for the IPC Prize.

Each paper accepted to the IPC Journal is automatically considered for the annual Best Academic Publication award.

  • Full disclosure of funding sources and conflicts of interest
  • Informed consent and anonymisation for any case data
  • Compliance with the IPC Code of Research Conduct
  • Use of AI tools must be declared in the methodology section
